Visa® Business Check Card's Zero Liability FAQs
1. What is Visa Business Check Card's Zero Liability Policy*?
Visa's Zero Liability Policy provides Visa Business check cardholders with protection against unauthorized Visa Business check card transactions processed through the Visa network, including Internet and telephone purchases, when fraudulent charges are promptly reported.
Visa Business check cardholders are not liable for any unauthorized transactions when they notify their Member financial institutions. Cardholders may be required to notify Members within 60 calendar days of the mailing date of the first statement showing any unauthorized transactions. Members may increase cardholders' liability if, based on substantial evidence, it is reasonably determined that cardholders were grossly negligent in the handling of cards or accounts.
Furthermore, provisional credit for unauthorized Visa transactions will be extended to cardholders within five business days from receipt of notification. Members may require written confirmation of the unauthorized Visa transactions before providing provisional credit.
Members may define an "unauthorized transaction" to exclude either or both of the following:
- Any transaction by a business co-owner, a cardholder or person authorized by a cardholder, or other person with an interest in or authority to transact business on the account.
- Any transaction by a cardholder that exceeds the authority given by the Visa Business check card account owner.
2. Does Zero Liability extend to all transactions?
Visa's Zero Liability Policy covers all Visa debit card transactions processed through the Visa network. For transactions on other PIN POS networks that are not a part of the Visa network, the decision is left to the discretion of the card-issuing financial institution. In addition, the Zero Liability Policy does not apply to commercial credit cards, ATM transactions, or to PIN transactions not processed by Visa.
3. Are Visa Business check cardholders interested in Zero Liability?
Recent Visa research indicates Zero Liability is by far the most desired protection feature for payment cards among small business owners. When small business owners are made aware that the Visa Business check card comes with Zero Liability protection: a.) 61% of Visa Business check card users indicated that they would be more likely to increase their card usage; and b.) 53% of Visa Business check card non-users indicated that they would be more likely to get a card.
4. Does Visa's Zero Liability Policy only apply to U.S-issued cards?
